1. What is Affirmative Minds Psychology?

Q: What makes Affirmative Minds Psychology different from a typical psychology clinic?

A: Affirmative Minds Psychology is a neurodiversity-affirming and inclusive practice. We proudly support autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent individuals, as well as LGBTIQA+ people, families, and young people. Our approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centred, focusing on helping people understand themselves, build confidence, and thrive—not “fixing” who they are.

Q: What is your philosophy of care?

A: We believe everyone deserves to feel understood and respected. Our philosophy focuses on empowerment, identity affirmation, reducing stigma, and supporting genuine self-understanding. We prioritise collaboration, safety, and kindness.

Q: Is your practice safe for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients?

A: Absolutely. Our clinic is built on neurodiversity-affirming and LGBTQIA+-affirming values. We provide a supportive environment where clients feel safe, celebrated, and genuinely understood.

2. What Services Do You Offer?

Q: What kinds of therapy do you provide?

A: We provide therapy for children, teenagers, and adults. We support emotional wellbeing, anxiety, mood, identity development, life transitions, autistic burnout, executive functioning, social connection, and relationships. All therapy is delivered through a neuroaffirming, compassionate, person-centred approach.

Q: Do you provide psychological assessments?

A: Yes. We offer evidence-based assessments for autism, ADHD, cognitive functioning, learning profiles, and school-related needs. Our reports are clear, practical, and suitable for NDIS, schools, paediatricians, and other healthcare providers.

Q: Do you work with schools?

A: Yes. We provide consultations to help schools understand neurodivergent students’ learning styles, sensory needs, and regulation strategies. We collaborate with teachers, families, and allied health teams to support inclusion and engagement.

Q: Is animal-assisted therapy available?

A: Yes. Animal-assisted therapy is available for clients who benefit from a relational, hands-on therapeutic style, especially children and young people.
